Bolton Abbey and River
15 minutes | 1 mileThe most popular destination and an easy walk down to the beautiful village, river and famous Priory. Go through the small gate in front of the campsite toilet block and head diagonally left across the field towards the stream. Cross the stream on to the well trodden path and follow to the next gate, turn left on to the road and follow to Bolton Abbey. In the village, continue forward to the “hole in the wall” where you will find a beautiful view of the Priory and river Wharfe.
Devonshire Arms Brasserie and Bar
15 minutes | 1 mileThe nearest place to get a good pint and delicious food, the route takes you on a quiet off road footpath across the fields. Turn right out of our drive and head 50 metres up the road. Turn left through the two metal gates into the field. Head diagonally across the field towards the mature trees where you will find a style over the wall. Continue diagonally to the bottom of the hill where you will cross another style and then turn left. Follow this path straight to the “Dev”.
Bolton Abbey Loop
50 hours | 2.5 milesOur favourite route that passes all the best bits of Bolton Abbey. After following the route above to the Devonshire Arms, continue through their car park to the river and turn left to head up stream. Ahead of you will be stunning views of the Priory in the background with the river in the foreground, a perfect photo opportunity! Turn left at the stone path and head up the steps to the “hole in the wall”, this will take you to the centre of the village where there are a couple of coffee shops, book shop and village shop. Cross the road towards the village shop and follow the road for 10 minutes, on your right you will see a small pedestrian gate into our field with a finger post directing you towards the campsite. Follow this path back to Catgill and pass through the campsite to the farm.
Cavendish Pavilion, Bolton Abbey River Loop
1 ½ hours | 4.2 milesA lovely river walk with the superb Cavendish Pavilion at the furthest point serving fresh food, ice creams and scrumptious cakes! After following the route to Bolton Abbey and river shown above, follow the winding stone path to the bridge over the river. If you are feeling daring this is where you will find the famous stepping stones, be careful not to fall in! Cross the river and follow the hilly path up stream to the Cavendish Pavilion and be sure to call in for some good grub. To get back to Catgill head down stream on the opposite side of the river through the car park and back towards the village. When you see the Priory head through the gates towards it and follow the path to Bolton Abbey where there are a couple of coffee shops, book shop and village shop. Cross the road towards the village shop and follow the road for 10 minutes, on your right you will see a small pedestrian gate into our field with a finger post directing you towards the campsite. Follow this path back to Catgill and pass through the campsite to the farm.
Barden Moor to Bolton Abbey Loop
2 hours | 6.5 milesA stunning moorland route that we love to do when we need to hit the reset button. Get back to nature with this quiet route that is off the beaten track and see some truly stunning scenery high above Bolton Abbey looking down the Wharfe valley. Turn right out of our drive and walk up the quiet single track road to Halton East. Turn right at “The Mission Room” and head up on to the moor using Moor lane and go through the first gateway turning right to follow the path. When you see the road in front of you turn right through the timber gates and follow the path, passing through another gate. Go through the 3rd gate which is on the right, head diagonally across the field towards the woodland which you will see in the distance. Passing through 2 more gates you will enter the wood where you will follow the path to the bottom of the hill. From here walk to the next gate which is on your left and follow the path to the sheep pens. At the sheep pens, go through the gate and turn left down a stone track which will take you to the road. Turn right on to the road and head back to Bolton Abbey where there are a couple of coffee shops, book shop and village shop. Cross the road towards the village shop and follow the road for 10 minutes, on your right you will see a small pedestrian gate into our field with a finger post directing you towards the campsite. Follow this path back to Catgill and pass through the campsite to the farm.
The Strid River Wharfe Loop including the Cavendish Pavilion
2 hours | 7.5 milesA narrow and deep section of river surrounded by a rock formation where the river rushes through at speed and a great photo opportunity! Follow the route above to the Cavendish Pavilion but continue upstream on the riverside path and you will find the Strid. Continue upstream to an old bridge where you can cross the river and come back along on the opposite side of the river to the Cavendish Pavilion. Follow the directions back to Catgill in the Cavendish Pavilion walk above.
Addingham River walk and back
2¾ hours | 8 milesA quiet river walk to the local village of Addingham which has an excellent selection of pubs serving good food and local beers. Follow the route above to the Devonshire Arms and river and then head down stream crossing over a quiet road through two gates. At the 3rd gate turn left on to a small section of road, take care as the footpath is very small. Head up the steep hill and at the top, cross the road towards the timber gate where you will find a stone style. Follow the field boundary and cross two more styles, head up the farm track looking out for a stone style over a drystone wall on your left. Turn left and then left again behind an old Quaker meeting house. Take care crossing the road and take the steps to the left, this path takes you back to the river where you follow it until you get to a caravan park. Go through the caravan park and turn right heading back to the road where you will then turn left following the road to the centre of the village.
